Law Day

In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared May 1 to be Law Day, USA. The idea behind Law Day is to set aside time for the public to celebrate and reflect on the rule of law, which is the basis for our country.

Theme: Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100

This year’s Law Day theme is the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to women. The Amendment reads:

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

For more information on national Law Day activities, please visit the American Bar Association's website.

The DuPage County Bar Association will organize a number of events to celebrate Law Day 2020 and to explore the issues involved with this year's theme.
