Continuing Legal Education

DCBA members are encouraged to take advantage of the DCBA programs available at no charge if they log on through the DCBA website.  Many live programs are impacted by the new rules limiting in-person gatherings.  We are shifting to online webcasts that are available online either at home or at their offices.  At this time, the MCLE Board has advised that there is no plan to extend the reporting deadline for 2020.  There is a grace period for reporting with a small penalty fee.  For research online, the IICLE Online Library remains fully operational and available.  Also, Formulaw, the Institute’s automated forms subscription service is also available with over 100 forms currently available.  Further details can be found at

Property Liquidation

Elite K Investments

Elite K Investments, LLC buys houses in as-Is condition and can close quickly. The biggest advantage to selling directly to us is that we can make sight unseen offers which means, if the house is occupied, the occupants do not have to worry about getting in contact with other people. If the house is vacant, the attorney or guardian does not have to be concerned with meeting others at the property.

Of course, our sight unseen offer prices will be reflective of that so this would really benefit only the properties that need to sold sooner rather than later. We will have to inspect the property during the inspection timeframe however we can use technology to help us with that, as much as possible.

Visit or contact Sam Kalafan directly at 847-840-0456 or via email at: and she will be happy to answer any questions or share expertise and help in any way she can.

Real Estate Closings

Citywide Title

In order to reduce the amount of person to person contact, we are recommending that Real Estate Brokers and Loan Officers not attend closings. Commission checks will be sent via FedEx at no charge. In cash transactions, if you cannot or do not wish to attend, it is not necessary to do so. We recommend that these closings are handled remotely and coordinated by our closer. For lender transactions, for both Buyers and Sellers Attorneys, we will be as flexible as possible and will provide you with solutions if you cannot or do not wish to attend. As a reminder of our standard courtesy, we will continue to send checks from the closing via FedEx next day delivery at no additional charge.  Also, if you require assistance to coordinate delivery of your documents, please contact your Citywide Representative or email us at

In our facilities, all closing rooms and commonly touched surfaces within our offices will be sanitized after every closing. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will be available for use before and after each closing. New pens will be distributed by the closer and can be taken by each user after the closing. We have removed all consumption items that are typically out in the open for people to consume. Seller’s attorneys are encouraged to send original documents to the closing location in advance of the closing. We will gladly handle your signing remotely.
