Advising Local Election Officials in Advance of the 2021 Consolidated
Primary and Consolidated Elections


Speaker: Ross D. Secler - Odelson, Sterk, Murphey, Frazier & McGrath, Ltd.


Topic Summary: This presentation will cover the major legal, practical, and ethical issues that local election officials (clerks), other elected officials, and candidates will likely face during the upcoming consolidated election cycle. The program is designed to provide an overview of potential “pitfalls” for candidates and elected officials alike and how best to advise those various types of clients throughout the electoral process.

 

What you will learn by attending this presentation:

1. Understanding and familiarity with ballot access requirements for local candidates.
2. Understanding and familiarity with being able to identify certain election-related issues and how to advise local election official clients regarding same.
3. How to advise a local/municipal officers’ electoral board through the petition-objection process and beyond.
4. A preliminary overview of other election-related issues, and obligations faced by local government candidates, elected local officers, and their attorneys.
