Law Day Annual Luncheon

The DuPage County Bar Association's Law Day Luncheon is held each year for the legal community to celebrate Law Day together.  The DCBA presents the Liberty Bell award and the DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation’s Pro Bono awards.

The 2020 Law Day Luncheon will take place on Friday, May 1, at Le Jardin at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. The Honorable Daniel P. Guerin, Chief Judge, 18th Judicial Circuit Court, will deliver the State of the Courthouse Address.

For the keynote address, Rachel Morse, a partner at Massey & Gail, will perform a dramatic reenactment of Myra Bradwell’s trailblazing struggle to become the first woman admitted to practice law in Illinois. In a one-woman show, Morse weaves together historic court records to portray Bradwell, Bradwell’s counsel, and the Illinois Supreme Court justices who initially denied her request. The court eventually admitted Bradwell in 1890, two decades after her application.

Morse studied theatre at Pomona College, where her favorite role was Lady Bracknell (The Importance of Being Earnest), and then received her J.D. from Harvard Law School. She now gets her theatre fix by being a trial lawyer and by doing overly dramatic readings of bedtime stories for her three daughters.
