Immigration Law MCLE Meeting

Speaker: Kimberly Spagui - Spagui Law Firm

Summary: The southern border between the United States and Mexico is overwhelmed with refugees or asylum applicants, waiting for court. Many are coming from countries outside of Mexico. Every asylum applicant is able to make a request for a Credible Fear Interview and have their case adjudicated by a neutral Immigration Judge. Most applicants need zealous advocates to guide them through this process, glean evidence of torture or abuse, and prepare them to testify before the tribunal. We will discuss the many ways lawyers and staff could get involved with the Crisis at the Border.

What You Will Learn By Attending This Presentation:

1. Explain the actual crisis at the border. What is going on? How is the truth different from what we're hearing in the news?

2. Who are the key players involved with the Crisis?

3. How can we get involved? Do they need lawyers to be physically present? Do they need lawyers to draft documents, briefs or motions? Can lawyers participate remotely?

4. Are they looking for funding, and if so, where does the money go and who needs our financial assistance? Can we help in other ways - support local attorneys who have accepted cases from this Crisis?

Time: 11:45am to 1:00 pm
