Topic Summary: The presentation will cover the legal issues that candidates for elected office face including ballot access, campaign finance, and other ethics compliance matters. The program is designed to provide an overview of potential “pitfalls” many candidates face and is geared towards any prospective candidates (with a particular focus on additional considerations for attorneys who are also candidates).

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the types of issues concerning a candidate’s qualifications for office and gaining access to the ballot

2. Become acquainted with the required documents candidates need to complete and file in order to gain access to the ballot

3. Comprehend the requirements for nominating petition signers and circulators; and

4. Acquire knowledge of the ethical, financial, and other compliance-related issues that face candidates and the continuing obligations of an attorney who is seeking public office.

 

Time: 11:45am to 1:00pm

Credits: 0.75 MCLE and 0.25 PRMCLE
