Adult / Elder Guardianship Mediation

Topic Summary: This program will address the use of Elder mediation though having a long history has not been frequently used in Illinois. Due to the increasing incidence of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, elder/adult guardianship mediation offers many potential benefits to attorneys and participants in the mediation process.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will learn techniques to identify matters for which litigation may not be the best initial option.
2. Attendees will identify factors to consider when recommending the necessary participants in mediation including, if living, the person or person's who circumstances are at the foundation of the dispute.
3. Attendees will learn the substantive differences that may and often do exist between divorce mediation and elder mediation.
4. The presentation will address the differences between mediating matters that are already the subject of litigation versus those that are not in litigation.
