Marital Trust Planning in the Wake of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017

Topic Summary:

  

This program will address the continued use of Family-Marital Trust Formulas, the Illinois QTIP Election, Portability Election and new ideas to incorporate income and estate tax planning at the same time.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will review Federal and Illinois estate tax exemptions and the rules surrounding "step up in basis".

 

2. Attendees will learn when an estate needs to make an Illinois QTIP Election and how it is made.

 

3. Attendees will learn how the Portability Election is made and when should a surviving spouse make a portability election.

 

4. Attendees will learn about Traditional Family-Marital Trust planning versus Marital Trust planning to maximize income tax advantages.
