Topic:Help! My Life Has Become Unmanageable! How to Make a Mental Health Referral


Summary: Statistics show that attorneys experience substance abuse and mental health issues more frequently than the general population.  Additionally, attorneys frequently encounter others (including clients, witnesses, and opposing parties) who are dealing with mental health problems.  This presentation will discuss the signs and symptoms of mental health distress and offer strategies for finding and managing resistance and non-compliance.  Resources will be given for mental health assistance in Illinois generally and in DuPage County specifically


Learning Objectives

1. Attorneys will learn about the effects of mental illness and the legal profession

2. Attorneys will learn about how to identify signs and symptoms of mental health issues.

3. Attorneys will gain strategies for dealing with mental health issues in themselves, co-workers, and clients

4. Attorneys will be given resources for finding mental health treatment in DuPage County

Time: 11:45pm to 1:00pm

Location: Attorney Resource Center (Third Floor of the DuPage County Courthouse)

Credits: 1 Credit PRMCLE - this program WILL qualify for the new mental health and substance abuse CLE requirement
