Speakers at this half-day seminar included Attorney Thomas Krueger, Associate Regional Counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Ms. Jean Payne, chief lobbyist for the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association, Mr. Adrien Robinson, Midwest Regional Manager for AIG Environmental Insurance, Mr. Mark Misiorowski, environmental law attorney with The Misiorowski Law Group, LLC, Mr. Lawrence Fieber, Principal at Burns & McDonnell Engineering, and Michael Tams, Vice President at American Chartered Bank in Warrenville, IL Topics covered included USEPA investigation and enforcement strategies, engineering techniques which can be used in contamination investigations, environmental insurance policies which companies can obtain to protect against certain liabilities and offset certain costs, and investigative and legal means to find additional PRPs and defendants in environmental enforcement or law suit matters. Insight into the lobbying process as a tool to reduce the scope of an enforcement action was presented by a major chemical industry lobbyist. This was the second environmental law seminar presented by the DuPage County Bar Association this year. The last seminar was presented on April 6, 2006, and discussed the issues associated with environmental enforcement actions and cleanup actions by publicly-held companies and how these matters need to be addressed in SEC disclosures under Sarbanes-Oxley.
