Press Release - Friday, June 8, 2007Judge John W. Demling of Glen Ellyn named "Lawyer of the Year" by the DuPage Bar Association WHEATON, Ill. - The DuPage County Bar Association presented Judge John W. Demling with its "Lawyer of the Year" award on June 7 in recognition of his many years of distinguished leadership and meritorious service to the bar and legal community. "Judge John Demling has earned this distinction for his vision and direction in implementing Minimum Continuing Legal Education [MCLE] in DuPage County," said Glenn R. Gaffney, outgoing DCBA President. "The DuPage County Bar Association was among the first three accredited MCLE providers approved by the MCLE Board of the Illinois Supreme Court in 2006. Under his leadership, the DCBA sponsored 45 MCLE activities wherein over 1,800 lawyers obtained 4,400 hours of MCLE credit. On top of that, Judge Demling consistently provides mentoring and leadership as a welcome member of the judiciary at numerous seminars and other bar association events throughout the year." Demling is an Associate Circuit Judge in the 18th Judicial Circuit, DuPage County. He is a graduate of Muskingum College and IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was appointed Associate Judge in 1997. He presently sits in the Domestic Relations Division where he hears divorce and custody matters. Judge Demling currently chairs the DuPage County Bar Association's CLE Committee and actively participates with the Family Law and New Lawyers Committees. He has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Family Law Section Council. He is also a co-chapter author of the IICLE Mechanics' Lien Handbook. The father of three, he resides in Glen Ellyn with his wife, Mary. |
