Irene F. Bahr of Wheaton receives DuPage Bar Award for Outstanding Legal Service

WHEATON, Ill. - The DuPage County Bar Association presented Irene F. Bahr of Wheaton with its Ralph A. Gabric Award for outstanding legal service.

"Irene Bahr is the third DuPage lawyer to serve as President of the Illinois State Bar Association," said Glenn R. Gaffney, outgoing DCBA President. "She helped spearhead creation of 'Safe Harbor,' the supervised waiting room in the 18th Judicial Center for children of witnesses and litigants. As ISBA President, Irene has been an inspirational leader to many of us, not only here in DuPage County but also to lawyers throughout the State of Illinois. It is only fitting that Irene received this award in the year she also served as ISBA President."

The annual award, named in memory of the late Ralph A. Gabric, Past President of the DuPage County Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association, is presented to DCBA member attorneys in recognition of distinguished service to the organization and legal community.
Bahr is a sole practitioner in the field of liquor licensing, regulation and related litigation at the circuit and appellate levels. She is the first woman outside of Cook County to serve as Illinois State Bar Association President, is Vice President of the Child Friendly Courts Foundation, and is Past President of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers. The latter association presented her with their Inspirational Woman Award in 2006. The DuPage County YWCA honored her as an Outstanding Woman Leader in 1998.

Bahr received her law degree from DePaul University, and was admitted to practice law in Illinois in 1977. The mother of three children, she resides in Wheaton with her husband, Judge Robert J. Anderson.
