Press Release - Friday, June 8, 2007Fred Spitzzeri of Naperville installed as President of the DuPage County Bar Association Other DCBA officers installed include Tom Else of Naperville as President Elect; Kent Gaertner of Aurora as 2nd V.P.; and Steve Ruffalo of Glen Ellyn as 3rd V.P. WHEATON, Ill. - Attorney Alfred A. Spitzzeri of Naperville was installed as President of the DuPage County Bar Association for the 2007-2008 term at the annual installation of officers and directors on Thursday, June 7, at Maggiano's Little Italy in Oak Brook. In remarks to several hundred of the DCBA's 2,000 member attorneys and their guests, Spitzzeri said: "My theme for the year is 'Professionalism, Ethics & Civility.' The Association will sponsor a twenty-hour Academy of Bar Leaders in conjunction with North Central College. We will produce an Ethics Extravaganza in September, and a four-part Trial Advocacy Workshop in March. We also intend to adopt a Code of Professional Responsibility." Spitzzeri is a sole practitioner in Naperville specializing in personal injury cases. He served on the DCBA Board of Directors, is past President of the DuPage Justinian Society of Lawyers, and is an ISBA Assembly Representative. He is past Chair of the Lawyer Referral Service, Civil Practice, Continuing Legal Education, Legal Action, Law Day and Entertainment Committees. He has taught in the DCBA's Trial Advocacy program, and is a Certified Arbitrator and Mediator. He is frequently selected to serve as an Arbitrator in un/underinsured motorist cases and is often appointed by the court as a GAL for cases involving minors or disabled adults. Spitzzeri resides in Naperville with his wife, Barbara, and their children. He serves as Naperville Township Trustee, has served on the boards of various school districts and homeowner's associations, and is an alumnus of the Naperville Citizen's Police Academy. He is also an active member of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce and an adjunct professor at North Central College. Spitzzeri also serves as the Ethics Advisor for the Township and has provided in-service training on the state's ethics ordinance to other townships across the county. DCBA Vice Presidents and Directors Other officers installed include: Thomas A. Else of Naperville as President Elect (President for the 2008-2009 term), Kent A. Gaertner of Aurora as Second Vice President (President for the 2009-2010 term), and Steven M. Ruffalo of Glen Ellyn as Third Vice President (President for the 2010-2011 term). Also appointed were John A. Pleviak of Glen Ellyn as Secretary-Treasurer; Michael J. Scalzo of Oak Brook as Assistant Treasurer; James F. McCluskey of Batavia as General Counsel; and Courtney A. Bobosky of Wheaton as Associate General Counsel. Five elected members of the DCBA's 15-member Board were installed: Brenda M. Carroll of Winfield, Dion U. Davi of Wheaton, Patrick B. Hurley of Wheaton, Cecilia Najera of Carol Stream, and John J. Pcolinski, Jr. of Naperville. Stephen A. Brundage of Wheaton was appointed by the Board of Directors to the remaining one-year director term formerly held by Mr. Ruffalo.
The DCBA's Ralph A. Gabric Award in recognition of leadership and professionalism was presented to Irene F. Bahr of Wheaton. The Lawyer of the Year Award was presented to Judge John W. Demling of Glen Ellyn in recognition of his many years of distinguished leadership and meritorious service to the bar association and legal community. Mary T. Robinson of Downers Grove received special recognition for her years of service as administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois. Receiving Retiring Board Awards were Ronald J. Broida, Stacey A. McCullough and John P. Stock, III. Board of Directors Awards were presented to Susan O'Neill Alvarado, Gerald A. Cassioppi, Judge John W. Demling, Judge William I. Ferguson, Loretta Glenny, Walter R. Jackowiec III, Nancy Smith Lehr, Elizabeth McKillip, Kevin H. Millon, and Keith E. (Chuck) Roberts, Jr. |
