WHEATON, Illinois - The DuPage County Bar Foundation Board of Directors presented grants to CASA of DuPage County and Special Ed Advocacy Center in recognition of these organizations' efforts to improve the administration of justice in DuPage County. The Foundation also presented a grant to Naperville Heritage Society to preserve a historical item having legal significance.

DCBF President Glenn R. Gaffney said, "The DuPage Bar's 2,100 member attorneys feel it is essential to publicly recognize and support local groups that address issues of vital concern to the public and our legal system."

The Bar Foundation awarded a grant of $3,000 to CASA of DuPage County, which advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in DuPage County's juvenile and family court systems. Funds will be used for the organization's Older Foster Youth program.

A grant of $3,000 was awarded to the Special Ed Advocacy Center, which ensures that children with disabilities in the Chicago metropolitan area receive all appropriate educational services provided under current law. This organization provides free legal representation to parents and caregivers of special needs children, who might not otherwise receive legal representation, on the substantive and procedural aspects of special education law.

The DCBF provided a $500 grant to Naperville Heritage Society , the administrator for Naper Settlement, to help underwrite the conservation and digitization of the Naperville Lyceum. This is a 170 page manuscript containing the record of weekly debates, beginning in 1834, on such questions as: "Ought capital punishment be abolished?" "Is an offensive war in any case justifiable?" and "Is imprisonment for debt justifiable?"

The Bar Foundation also contributed $1,000 to the Northern Illinois University Foundation's February 14 Student Scholarship Fund.
