DCBA Volunteer Week (October 24-28, 2016)
Four Ways to Get in on the Celebration!
For some years now, the legal community throughout the United States has been recognizing the idea of a Volunteer Week in October. This year, that week is October 24-28, 2016. Here are four great ways you can participate:
1. Come to the October Lawyers Lending a Hand!
LLH heads out to a different location where members of the legal community can provide assistance that doesn’t involve practicing law. On October 27, 2016, in celebration of Volunteer Week, LLH will be at Feed My Starving Children, 555 Exchange Court in Aurora Illinois, where they’ll be hand packing meals to be sent to children in need. CLICK HERE for details.
2. Support the DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation!
Founded by members of the DCBA over 40 years ago, DuPage Legal Aid provides free legal services to hundreds of families every year. CLICK HERE to add your name to the list of volunteer lawyers or to make a contribution, use the secure donation link.
3. Do Pro Bono in your Pajamas with Illinois Online Legal Answers!
Legal Answers is a new online portal which provides qualified Illinois residents with access to advice from volunteer lawyers who handle cases on a limited-scope basis, through email. The program was launched here by Illinois Legal Aid Online with support from the Illinois Bar Association and Illinois Bar Foundation. It is part of a larger initiative, first developed in Tennessee, which the American Bar Association is developing nationwide. CLICK HERE to learn more and volunteer to take questions from those needing help from a lawyer when and where it works for you.
4. Support your Alma Mater's Clinic Program!
To donate directly to one of the great programs run through the following area law schools, please click on the links below. Donors of $200 or more will be acknowledged in the DCBA Brief. If your alma mater is not listed, we encourage you to inquire about those programs as well and take this opportunity to join attorneys nationwide in assisting law schools with their very worthy efforts.
