Notice of Vacancy; Associate Judge, 18th Judicial Circuit

Chief Judge Kathryn E. Creswell announced that the Court is accepting applications to fill a vacancy for the Office of Associate Judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois, DuPage County.  This vacancy is the result of the retirement of Associate Judge William I. Ferguson. Applications are now being accepted for this vacancy which will be filled by vote of the Circuit Judges of the 18th Judicial Circuit.


Pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 39, any attorney, who is a U.S. citizen, is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois, and is a resident of the 18th Judicial Circuit may apply by electronically filing a signed application with the Director of the Administrative Office of Illiinois Courts on the form prescribed and furnished by the Director.  The instructions for submitting an application electronically are available on the Supreme Court's website:

If unable to submit an application electronically, an applicant must submit two (2) signed originals of the prescribed application with the Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts at the address listed below:

Whether electronically filed, mailed or hand delivered, all applications must be received in the AOIC within 30 days after the date of this notice (12/27/2016).  If filed electronically, the deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017. If mailed or hand delivered, the deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017. A form for application may be obtained from either the Chief Judge's Office, the AOIC or from the Illinois Supreme Court website: and downloaded from the documents/application/forms link. Applications will not be accepted if submitted via facsimile.

Applicants for this position may also be required to make themselves available for an interview with the Circuit Judges of the 18th Judicial Circuit. If an interview is necessary, the applicants will be notified of the date, time and place of their interview at the close of the application period.  Applicants are to refrain from contacting any Circuit Judge regarding their candidacy. A Circuit Judge, however, may contact any applicant.

Those who wish to be rated by the DuPage County Bar Association Judiciary Committee must submit 21 copies of their applications to the Bar Center (126 S. County Farm Rd, Wheaton, IL 60187).  Candidates are encouraged to remove their social security information from the application before submitting them to DCBA.  The deadline for submission will be announced by February 1.


Any prior ratings issued by the Judiciary Committee expire on the one year anniversary of the interview/rating date.  Candidates with a current rating need not submit applications unless requesting a new interview from the Committee.
