Chartered on February 1, 1879, the Association
is now the largest county bar association in the state with over two thousand
members. To continue to be an effective Association, all lawyers practicing
in DuPage County should be members. It is through the Association's continuing
growth that we can truly be of service to its members and the community.
In April of 1988, the Association reached
the milestone of opening its new home, the DuPage Bar Center. Located
on the west side of Wheaton, the Bar Center is close to the DuPage County
complex center and the new Judicial Office Facility. In addition to the
Arbitration Center on the second floor, the Bar Center also provides the
Association with space for committee meetings, seminars and deposition
rooms. A law library and conference rooms are open for use by the membership.
The American Bar Association has featured the Bar Center in the Bar Leader
as one of the few local bar associations to own and operate its own building.
During the past few years, the Association
has repeatedly been commended by the American Bar Association for its
programs and operations. This speaks well for our Association, but we
can do much more with your active participation. Recently, the Association
was honored and presented with awards by the ABA and ISBA for their Legal
Aid Program.
In addition to the day-to-day activities
of the organization in our county and the interaction among its members,
the courts, the clerk's office and other governmental institutions, our
Association maintains and provides the following:
A lawyer referral service which has been
operating since 1974. As a member of the Association, you may consider
joining the lawyer referral and mediation service, which provides the
attorney with a potential for increase in his or her client base in their
area of concentration. Lawyer Referral Service membership also includes
internet exposure through our Find A Lawyer directory.
A Speaker's Bureau providing community organizations
with lawyers to speak about legal matters.
Seminars on matters of interest to the members
of the Bar to assist lawyers in their continuing education. As a new member,
you will receive a discounted fee on all seminars.
You will receive the DCBA BRIEF,
a highly successful journal which is published ten times per year. Especially
effective because it is a local publication edited, produced and written
by members of our Association. In a continuing effort to improve said
publication, we are in the process of expanding this journal to include
greater attention to substantive areas of practice.
Meeting rooms are available on a reservation
basis to its members.
Copy service and FAX service.
Secretarial placement service for members
who are seeking secretarial assistance.
A Lawyer's Assistance Program (LAP), providing
services to members who have alcohol or drug related problems.
A social relationship among members of the
bench and the bar.
Various social functions during the year
including dances, luncheons, sports outings, general membership meetings,
etc.
As a member of the Association, your membership
