Volunteers Needed for Election Protection Program
October 31, 2012
The Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights is a non-profit legal advocacy and services organization. We are a part of the national Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
This election season we have partnered up with a number of law firms to organize legal poll-watchers through Election Protection. Election Protection is the nation’s largest non-partisan voter protection program. DLA Piper LLP and Kirkland & Ellis LLP are taking the lead on election protection this year. You can read more about Election Protection here: http://www.866ourvote.org/
The Election Protection program is a non-partisan effort and is not affiliated in any way with any candidate or political party. Due to the non-partisan nature of this opportunity, many law firms offer pro bono credit for Election Protection volunteering.
Election Protection is seeking volunteers to staff the Legal Field Program on Election Day, November 6th. Election Protection volunteers help all voters exercise their right to vote, particularly those voters that have been traditionally disenfranchised.
We assign lawyers who have an interest in volunteering to precincts, where they volunteer in pairs. Volunteers must attend a 1.5 hour training session, where they will be provided with all the materials and information necessary.
As the election is fast approaching, we have one more field training left. It is on November 2nd from 12:00pm – 1:30 pm at DLA Piper, located on the 19th floor at 203 N. LaSalle, Chicago.
If any lawyers are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Shubra Ohri sohri.clc@gmail.com.
