OUT and ABOUT: The LGBT Experience in the Profession

 The ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (“SOGI”) and the National LGBT Bar Association (“LGBT Bar”) are delighted to announce the upcoming publication of OUT and ABOUT: The LGBT Experience in the Profession.

This publication will be an anthology. Its purpose is to share the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (“LGBT”) attorneys, academics, and jurists in the profession, through their own words, in an effort to educate the legal profession and the general public about this diverse group, its contributions and its struggles. The book will be published through ABA Publishing, and our target publication date is Fall 2013.

At this time, we are in the process of identifying potential contributors for the publication. We are striving to make the publication as diverse as possible in order to fully represent the breadth of LGBT persons in all aspects of the profession. Moreover, our hope is for the stories to be relevant for a multitude of readers, whether or not they identify at LGBT.

The email should include the individual’s contact information and a brief biography, to help us determine whether their background and experiences would be a good fit for our publication. Additionally, if you or one of your colleagues knows someone who may be an appropriate contributor, we invite you to send that person’s contact information and brief biography to Ms. Rone. We invite all interested individuals to contact us, but, of course, cannot guarantee that everyone expressing an interest will be published.
