University of Illinois seeks attorneys to host an undergraduate student for one-day job shadowing

The Department of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks DuPage County Bar Association lawyers to participate in this year’s summer job shadow program. Undergraduate pre-law students are matched with a volunteer attorney who allows the student to shadow their professional life for one day. Lawyer hosts simply spend the day as you normally would.  Students are matched with three different lawyer hosts for one day apiece, allowing undergrads to view the practice of law from different perspectives. The students are participating in a one-credit class (Political Science 199) requiring them to complete their job shadow rotations and write a paper to receive credit.

We are seeking several DuPage County lawyer hosts from a variety of legal specialties who would be willing to spend one or more days hosting an undergraduate pre-law student during either the week of June 18 or the week of June 25. The only commitment from lawyer hosts is to allow the student to spend your workday with you, and to allow the student to ask a few questions about your profession.

Interested lawyers, please contact the course instructor, Ms. Jamie Thomas-Ward, by April 26 at thomas99@illinois.edu or at 217-333-9669. Please include your practice area and indicate which day(s) you are available to host during the weeks of June 18 and June 25.

This is a great learning opportunity for Illinois students, many of whom are from DuPage County, to experience the realities of legal practice. Many thanks to the entire DuPage County Bar Association membership for considering this public service!
