Chad Main, 

is an attorney and the founder of Percipient, a legal technology and e-discovery company focusing on managed document review. Percipient handles all aspects of legal document review projects including collection, review, analysis and production. Prior to founding Percipient, Chad worked as a litigator in Los Angeles and Chicago. He may be reached at cmain@percipient.co


Jim Doppke

Jim concentrates his practice in professional responsibility issues of all kinds, including ARDC defense, bar admissions, and other ethics consulting. Licensed in 1996, Jim was Senior Counsel for the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission from 1999 to 2013. There, he handled the investigation and prosecution of numerous attorney misconduct matters. He has also participated in presenting numerous MCLE- and 
PMCLE-accredited programs on professional responsibility and risk management issues.


 

 

Course Description:  

The presenters will offer helpful practice tips for handling cases involving electronic documents and discovery. The presentation will also address the Rules of Professional Conduct implicated by both e-discovery and the use of technology in modern legal practice.


Topics covered:

  • Why it is important to have a working knowledge of e-discovery practices; -
  • Key terms and rules common to e-discovery;
  • What questions to ask clients/employees if you have a cases with an e-discovery component;
  • What agreements and arrangements to make with opposing counsel regarding e-discovery and electronic evidence to save time and money; 
  • Recent developments in e-discovery laws and rules;
  • Ethical precepts that come into play when undertaking and executing an e-discovery project;
  • Lawyers' duties of competence, diligence, and confidentiality as it relates to e-discovery;
  • How to avoid legal and ethical pitfalls in e-discovery projects.
