Weigh the Benefits

Chartered on February 1, 1879, the DuPage County Bar Association [DCBA] is the largest county bar association in Illinois with approximately 2,000 members. From educational seminars to community service programs to social functions, the DCBA ranks as the heavyweight in Illinois. Weigh our benefits! Here is a sampling:

Learning

    • The DCBA Brief Magazine published ten times per year. It is especially effective because it is written and edited by members of our Association. See http://www.dcba.org/brief/briefhp.htm.
    • Continuing Legal Education Seminars. The DCBA is designated by the MCLE Board of the IL Supreme Court as an Accredited MCLE Provider. As a member, you will receive a discounted fee on all seminars, skills training workshops, and committee MCLE presentations. See http://www.dcba.org/cle.htm.
    • Participation in more than 20 committees of your choice focusing on various aspects of substantive law. Each committee meets periodically to discuss recent developments. Judges actively partici-pate in most committees. See http://www.dcba.org/memonly/committees/committees.asp.
    • Online legal research classes at the state of the art West Training Center at the DCBA's Bar Center. See http://west.thomson.com/westlaw/training/classes/.
    • A Mentoring Program that matches newer DuPage attorneys with those who have practiced more than five years. See http://www.dcba.org/memonly/mentor.asp.

    Connecting

    • A social relationship among members of the bench and the bar. Judges are active participants in most of our committees. Our monthly Young Lawyer Get Togethers (ordinarily 3rd Thursdays) frequently include at least one judge as well as some of our Board and tenured members.
    • Various social functions during the year including luncheons, receptions, dances, sports outings and our annual Judges' Nite Show. See http://www.dcba.org/cle.htm.
    • Attorney and law office staff placement service for members who are seeking positions OR secretarial assistance. See http://www.dcba.org/classifieds.htm.
    • A listing in the biennial photo Membership Directory, as well as our members-only online directory. See http://www.dcba.org/memonly/mbrdirectory/Home.asp.
    • The Association's leadership includes legislative and ISBA Liaisons who advocate the views of the Association before the Illinois General Assembly and keep our Board informed as to statewide developments in the ISBA.
